Located on the East Coast of Florida, about 20 miles South of Daytona Beach, is Turtle Mound in New Smyrna Beach Florida (Canaveral National Seashore). Turtle Mound was created by the Timucuan Native Americans around 1400. The height of the mount is about 50 feet! You can see a great distance if you walk to the top of the walking paths. There is a small fee to enter this area – a great nature park with many walking paths. Park officials will gladly provide you with information on the long history of the park. Bring a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon.
