Announcement from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation
May 28th, 2010
The DPBR is urging all businesses, consumers, and professionals to prepare for the 2010 Hurricane Season.
For businesses the DPBR recommends:
Safe storage of all business records in a waterproof container.
Take photos and video of the business to document inventory.
Check to make sure all insurance is current.
Prepare for being without access to phones and cash as cell phones and banks may not be operational following a hurricane.
For consumers the DBPR recommends:
Watch out for unlicenced contactors as this is know to increase during natural disasters such as a hurricane. Licenced contractors can be checked on MyFloridaLicense.com, provided there is functioning Internet and electricity.
Paying a contractor in cash is not recommended. Checks should usually be made to the company and not an individual.
Have everything in writing regarding the services of the contractor.
